Many people find that goal settings do not work. My learning is we have to take actions in order to make it work. Aligned your goals with your purpose, beliefs and values. Be specific such as set realistic timeline. Review your goals at least once a week to ensure that you are on the right track or make small adjustments to suit the reality. Finally, be focus and committed to your goals.
