Fireworks didnt works, but kakis are great

Yesterday went to watch Singapore Fireworks Celebrations at Marina Square... Happily took out my camera.... and realised that i didn't bring my batteries! I hate to admit but have been hidding it for at least more than 4 mths!

Today I met up with my photography kakis and went to a open space... It was great to have such a big group of 9 of us, was exploring on how to get the "best angle of the fireworks". We waited for 3-4 hours, despite of the long wait everyone of us just hang around being crappy and chatting :) We even brought food there to eat just like having a pinic party there.

As usual, our cute joe is "ever-ready late"... the fireworks almost started, then finally saw him... everyone starts to tease him...

There was this woman tried to squeeze a space with us... Evon told her she has been blocking her but that woman didnt want to shift at all... and the worse part is she keep flapping her arm! Poor evon had to tolerate her... and in the end, she cant really take much good pixs at all..

Sad to say, I haven't been using my precious camera.. kinda of lost touch... fortunately after awhile, the feeling comes back again heehee... But the fireworks were disasterous... just manage to took a few shots...

Here are some of the "better ones" among all the disasterous fireworks... yucks...

The Paradoxical Commandments

Saw this set of interesting commandments online, some are quite inspiring to me:) Hope it could gives you some inspirations too...

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.
Love them anyway.

If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.
Do good anyway.

If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies.
Succeed anyway.

The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.
Do good anyway.

Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.
Be honest and frank anyway.

The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.
Think big anyway.

People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.
Fight for a few underdogs anyway.

What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.
Build anyway.

People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.
Help people anyway.

Give the world the best you have and you'll get kicked in the teeth.
Give the world the best you have anyway.

OMG.... Is it earthquake?

Yeah yeah... my office building is shaking... The building is shaking quite badly until we thought it's one of the nearby countries having earthquake again... searching through the Channel newsasia but no news about any earthquakes for these few days...

After much investigation... is the drilling caused by the construction. We are going to expand our carpark lots... they are tearing down the childcare centre to make rooms for the carpark.

Xiao Mei still joked that if the building collapse at least we are at 5th floor much higher... the damage is not that great... but when the building really collapse shouldn't our first reaction to rush out of the building??? Some says must buy more insurance now.. just in case...

Anyway, I just hope that the construction will ends soon.. cos the shaking is causing some of us giddiness...

Unusual Self

Haven't been myself lately again... yes, hiberating again. My sunlight seems to be dimmer each day... no matter how much i want it to light up... Perhaps the people around me are affecting me.... Quite a number of good terms colleagues including my manager, have just tendered... it has been affecting us or rather affecting me cos we are used to be pretty close.. and before i know it, everyone starts throwing their letters and moving to another better prospects...

I start to wonder.. where is my career prospects here? actually there is none... Working in agencies means having hectic and zombie lifestyle but working as a in-house designer as time goes by, you will not be learning new things. Work starts to get bored and less challenging...

I have finally agreed with myself not to think too much 'cause it will be adding more to my worries... Thinking about something that haven't or perhaps never happens is something silly...

We can only plan and anticipate but we can't really control... There are too many uncertainties in life... I'm still trying to cope....

Words of wisdom

Some words of wisdoms seen in one of my 1000 mails... Simple wisdom yet not many of us have realise it. Sometimes it might be too late after we realised it... Friends have been complain to me that they do not have enough sleep or enough time... busy striving for their career.

Is money really that important in our life? Do we want to be money salves? Think again...

With money, you can buy house but not HOME.
With money, you can buy clock but not TIME.
With money, you can buy bed but not SLEEP.
With money, you can buy book but not KNOWLEDGE.
With money, you can see doctor but not GOOD HEALTH.
With money, you can buy position but not RESPECT.
With money, you can buy blood but not LIFE.
With money, you can buy sex but not LOVE.

Can I trust you?

"Can I trust you?"

I find that this is an interesting question but yet hardly people around us will ask it. If you ever asked this question, no one would ever replied, "No, I can't be trusted." Just like a villain will never say he is bad guy. He will always say he is being forced by circumstances.

We played a simple game called "Can I trust you?" Everyone is holding a red and a blue chip. All you need to do is look at your partner and showed to him one of the chips. The red chip means that you trust him while the blue chip means you don't. At the end of the day, you calculate how many blue and red chips you give and receive.

Although this game is simple but yet it says a lot. From this game, I learnt that not all people, whom you trust, would give you red chips. "Not trustworthy guys" might be someone whom you can trust and "Good guys" end up betrays your trust.

Once you received a blue chip, you could be giving other people blue chips. It means once there is a sense of betrayal, you could have your own defense or maybe you will start to betray the next person who comes along.

Sad to say, that's how corporate life works.

Many a times, it is difficult to tell whether who you can trust. Are you able to tell who are your true friends or your enemies? Especially when you first meet that person, you will not make any assumptions until you get to know that person better.

It's a way of life. Especially in the business world, we have learnt to keeping within our own "boundary", people have become less trusting to other party. Compared to the previous generation, our generation has become more isolated and more individualistic.

Trusting is mutual. It ties strongly back to our own values. It will be painful if everyday we have to guard ourselves from everyone around us.

Legend of the Sea

Before watching, I was looking forward to watch this show, since they make such a big hoo-ha over the radio and tv.
After watching, I'm disappointed with it.

This is the first cartoon movie that makes me want to fall asleep. The storyline is weak therefore having too many S-L-O-W scenes and unnecessary pauses. The dialogue are lame. The songs in the show are mostly out of tune... The characters have no facial expressions at all... The worse part is some characters seems to be "copied" from Disney characters. Where is the CREATIVITY?

The animators just "throw" in whatever animation skills they have, without thinking in depth. We laughed not because it is funny, we laughed because the show is so ridiculously cannot make it...

I know it is not easy to produce 3D animation movie. If you ever watch this "rush work", you will know what i mean...

They are just not there yet.

Everything seems so wrong

Sorry guys.. haven't been blog for one whole week... have been sick for one whole wk again... still the 4 sickness, flu, fever, cough and sore throat... After one wk of rest, I'm almost recovered... i guess flu takes a longer time to recovered. My new coll still called me and ask me if i have dengue fever.. choy... of course not...

The sick viruses are circulating in my office room... have asked for air purifier for our room.. hopefully, can get it by next week...

Today the moment i stepped into my room, the first mail that is saw was "All Instant messaging softwares are not allow"

"Please note that all instant messaging software, eg : Skype, MSN, Gtalk, YAHOO Messenger and etc...., are not allowed. This is a decision made at Management level and has asked MIS to broadcast to employees..." This means i'm being isolated from "outside world".... Sad sad....

Then my manager asked me what is the status of the brochure. I purposely gave her the "blur" look cause she knows very well that i'm sick since last week. How would i know the actual status? Anyway, I quickly called the vendor and asked them when can they send the brochure. They told me send by 11am. But till 12 noon, I haven't even received the brochure yet. Called them again to chase.. Finally 12.30pm the brochures arrived.

But there is a mistake. My manager looked at me as if it was my fault. This brochure has been ciculating to everyone but no one spots this mistake until it is printed. So now I have become the scapegoat. Anyway, my manager doesn't want to spend extra money to reprint.. So I told her have to print inhouse with the printer.

This lousy printer is not working properly, I rushed up to level 6 to borrow other dept's printer. Spend my time to calibrate the color until it is similar to my brochure background color. After printing 300 sets of labels, i worked like a factory worker, stick the labels one by one. Luckily, two of my colleagues offered to help me to paste the labels. if not, i would have been a worker until tomorrow...

Everything seems so wrong, nothing seems right....

Be a useful person

"Be a useful person." Quoted by my shifu one day.

I heard these words of wisdom from my teacher when I was in P1. I seem to forget about this.

It's easy to understand, yet profound. What is the defination of being a useful person?

What great achievements that i have made in the past 29 years? There's none loh. Nothing that will do myself or my family proud.

But it doesn't matter because I am grateful that I had not been picking up smoking, nor taking any drugs. I had to been straying around at nites and I had not been sleeping around.

I'm have great friends around with me to help me and guide me along the way. I'm grateful that my family give me their support despite they dont feel comfortable with my decision.

Useful or not? I guess its what you set your own expectations for yourself to excel. Just like what is the purpose in life and what is the existance for us to live in this world? Only ourselves will able to answer this question.

A ruthless person

Another person threw letter. It's the 4th person who threw the letter within one month. Every this time of the month, you will see people throwing letters in that Dept.

She is mean.
She has no friends.
She likes to manipulate her people.
She likes to hire people who are introvet.
She bans her own people communicating with others.
She makes mistakes but she is smart enough to cover up.
She is unfriendly to colleagues who are lower ranking than her.
She is ruthless when she wants her people to leave.

It's a norm for people in her dept to leave every month. Some of them are quite "tough" but none of them stayed more than a year. Everyone dislike her but there is nothing they can do. She will come out with reasons that why there is a need to change people in her dept.

She reminds me of my Vice President in my previous co. He possessed the same kind of character. Strangely, these people never failed to leave the co, despite of their ugly sides. Either the top management seems able to "tolerate" them or choose not to see their ugly side.

I just can't help but to pity these people. They may be "successful" in their own ways but they can never be happy. They may seems to "own the whole world" but their soul is empty. They are just too pathetic...

Where is my heart?

Was quite upset with myself recently... I could not feel for most of my own photos... I just feel that the photos that i took is just for the sake of taking... Friends do feel for my photos but I just don't know, what am I taking and why did I take these photos... I felt that I was "copying" others... Where is the link??? I just couldn't see...

A good photo needs to tell a story... I know I still have passion in photography... I still have the urge to take photos... But I no longer could feel for my surrounding...

Where has my Heart gone to? Searching for my Heart... Zzz....

Rubberband Buddy

Last weekend, I was super pissed off with a good buddy of mine again. She has a bad habit of lateness. We are supposed to meetup to celebrate her birthday. I plan to meet her at Suntec 7pm then we go and have our night dinner and even thinking of a nice surprise for her...

We exchanged a few smses:
From her: At 5.30pm, "It's raining heavily, let's meet at 7.30pm."
From me: At 7pm, "I will be late for 5mins."
She replied: "It's okay, take your time, why not we meet at 8pm?"
From me: "Alright then."

As I was looking at the clothes when a salesgirl just me if i had taken my dinner already. Then i realised that only its 8.20pm already and this rubberband buddy hasn't turn up yet.

So I asked her where she is.
She replied she is still at Toa Payoh and rushing down to suntec. She even suggested that we meet at AMK Hub and wanted to meet me at AMK Hub and she waited for me there.

This time round, i was really pissed.

I simply replied: "I'm here already. Why cant you plan your schedule properly? Let's meet another day!"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

The meeting time was supposed to be 7pm. I have finished my shopping, I waited for her from 7.35pm to 8.20pm. I think I have waited long enough. I'm angry not about how much time, i need to wait. I'm angry about how insignificant this birthday dinner meant to her. It's about turning up on time for a friend. It is so simple task and yet she couldn't do it.

Friends told me that she is like that, just let her be. I felt that this should not be the way.

She is a busy person and there are alot of things she need to handle everyday. But that should not be a good excuse to be late. If she thinks this dinner is not worth of her time, then she is wasting my time as well.

She promised me that she will change. I took her promise seriously. Yes i know changes takes time. If I can change for the better, I'm sure she can do it as well. I had already told her that if she ever late for another 15 mins for the next gathering, I will just walked off...

How to Revitalise Your Dreams

"Dare to Dream" is a phrase I love, it reinvigorates us, it has hope, it gets us thinking about what we want from our life. What I hate is that we USED to do that - when we were young we dreamed about being a lawyer, a doctor, a teacher or even a superstar then we start working, somehow we lost our ability to work towards our dreams, so here are some of ideas of how to learn how to dream again...

1) Take 10 minutes each day to dream, to think about what is important to you...

2) Speak to children and let your mind wander with them to inspire your thoughts, learn how to think like a child again...

3) Read a book on a topic that is not your specialized subject - let your imagination wander of how you could incorporate the ideas...

4) Go for a walk, look at nature, see the beauty and think about if you could do anything you wanted to do - what it would be....

5) Write an 8 word legacy of how you want to be remembered...

6) Encourage others to dream - speaking in a positive away will inspire them and inspire you...

7) Write down 3 things that you want to achieve and use it as a screen saver on your PC...

8) Try something new, be it a hobby, a holiday, a new learning just something that you have always wanted to do but haven't found time for..go on just try it.

9) Start using the sentence "What would it be like if..." then take action to achieve it...

10) Read De Bono book 6 hats of creative thinking....

Dreaming is important, we all love to have something to dream about......and it is only others that have taken it away from us. We have the power to dream, we can take that power back.

Drinking Parties

Haven't been blogging for few days, due to some errors in blogger...

Last weekend has quite a "drinking" weekend... Went clubbing with my new colleagues on friday... We went to St James... then most happening clubbing in town. We wanted to go dragonfly but it was too crowded so we decided to go powerhouse.

It's been two years since i went clubbing... memories flash back.. remembered the days cheong with my ex-colleagues and friends... Sometimes it's good to let down your hair once awhile... Had a fun nite with my new colleagues... they are indeed great party animals... Yah and they tried very hard to make me drunk... I like to feel "high", not to feel drunk! Luckily, im still quite sobber... Heng ah...

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

Sunday is Monthers' Day. As usual, we do not like to mix with the crowd in the restuarant. My sis wipped up a few dishes, while i go and collect a bouquet of flowers. My mum is surprised that we bought her flowers. We really make her day.

My sis bought Irish cream for the occasion... It's nice, so drank a lot... but its okay... once awhile :) Felt so sleepy after drinking... Zzz....

Sicko people around

Spot Check
Can you imagine everyday you are like going back to school even though you have left school for donkey years ago?

Everyone of us were being spot check by the security guard. Just to check if anyone were carrying camera phone... He just go around everyone's handphone. When is the last time i got check by someone? I couldn't even remember it myself. Hello, I'm just a employee here... not a ex-convict or a jailbird. Why do I have to check by these people every now and then.

What have I done to deserve this?

------------------------------------------------------------------------

Being an observer
Can you imagine when you are being asked to help out in another team, end up people just treating like an guinea pig?

My colleague was supposed to help out in another team due to lack of manpower. Guess what? When he was there, he was asked to be an observer. Being an observer meaning just sit there and watch other people how to do their work.

Ridiculous rite? Being paid to do nothing. The team just don't have time to teach him...Okay fine. He just be an observer for that 8 hours. When its about knock off time, at 6. He couldn't go back. He was forced to stay back until 3am with them because this team haven't finish their work yet.

First, he was asked to help
Second, he was not allowed to hands-on
Third, he was not allowed to go home

What kind of rational behind it?

He called his boss to complain. His boss talked to the team leader. This idiotic team leader just replied, "Ohh we just want to see how fast can he pick up by just looking."

You mean by just looking, you can learn everything... If possible, this guy must be an genius then! If he's genius, he won't be in this company!

What has he done to deserve this treatment?

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

What's wrong with these people in my company. Are they sicko or something?

Heliconias Vs Strelitzia reginae

Few weeks back, Usu told me the the photo i had is "fake" bird of paradise. The one i took is called "Heliconias" and the "real" ones is "Strelitzia reginae". Whether fake or real i think they are equally beautiful, they simply stand out by itself :)

Original Bird of paradise

Heliconias are tends to be plain while Strelitzia reginae are more vibrant in their colours.

More readings on HELICONIAS
Heliconia are known for their beautiful, brilliant colorful flowering bracts.

Breathtaking and unusual flowerheads (bracts) rise from clumps of banana like leaves, sometimes very large or slender.

Their height may on some species vary from as small as 2" to 25" depending on variety. Heliconia are actually highly modified leaves and bracts, their colorful bracts may be erect, pendulous or spiraling with bracts in the shapes of bird's beaks, lobster claws or fan shaped.

They are in colors of reds, pinks, golds, oranges and splashes of a mixture of colors. The IRg Reat durability makes them unique for export urpose satisfying the needs of our customers far away from the place of origin.
