Day 118: Meaning in Life

Biggest Takeaway
In Jan, I was busy decluttering my room. my space. I want to make way for new things to come into my life. I feel good and relax after I declutter and give away my things to people who need them. The universe is responding to what I want. I ask for $4000 a month and money does come into my life. I use my money wisely. I understand money is always on the table and it is ever flowing. Money takes care of itself. I just need to take care of my state of mind.

The state of my mind how I can identify
Anxiety
Stress
Nervous
“Stone”
Relax

I don’t have to wait until I become anxious to solve my issues, when I am aware that I am at the “stone” (frozen) stage, I can respond to it already.
I am a learner, I want to learn and grow. When I have accomplished one level, I want to move on to the next one and to the next one. I never stop learning. Be humble and curious to learn. When I feel inadequate, I want to learn more to make myself be a wiser person.

2 parts of life:
Life is like a circle, also like waves, ups and downs...
Early part of Life keep wanting, keep receiving, always seems not enough, always want to have, accumulating
Later part of Life keep giving back, decluttering, releasing, letting go, contributing

I am Type 1 Reformer (main) in Enneagram and Type 2 Helper (secondary), I can tap on my own strength. I also remember to look out for my own weaknesses. Eg. too critical or too helpful, end up not appreciated by others.

To find meaning in my life is to create and design my own life
Use Playground as a life metaphor.
To play, have fun, and learn while playing. The playground blocks (challenges) are built for a purpose. To stretch my brain and body muscles. To become a wiser and compassionate person.

Homework: Read Man’s Search for meaning by Viktor E. Frankl
What have I learnt:
1. Ability to choose a more positive attitude in any given set of situations.

2. How I respond, instead of reacting.
Forces beyond my control can take everything I possess except one thing, my freedom to choose how I will respond to the situation. I cannot control what happens to me in life, but I can always control how I feel and do about what happened to me.

3. Success has to let it happen by not caring about it. Let success follow me.

4. Celebrate small wins often.

What is the meaning of life?

This question has both plagued and motivated humans for centuries, and it’s probably crossed your mind once or many times.

But how do we answer this question, and how can we ensure our lives have meaning?

Man’s Search for Meaning recounts Viennese psychiatrist, Viktor Frankl’s experiences in the concentration camps of WWII and the school of therapy he invented to help us confront this very question.

I didn't finish the whole book as it was heavy content to read. I grasp the essence of this book. There were so much pain and wisdom in this book.

Viktor Frankl was able to observe the way uniquely that he and other inmates coped with the experience of being held up concentration camp (also known as death camp), where 1.5 million people died in Auschwitz.

Man's search for meaning is the primary motivation in his life. This meaning is unique and specific, that it must and can be fulfilled by him alone. It achieves a significance which will satisfy his own will to meaning.

3 possible sources for meaning
1) In work (doing something significant)
2) In love (caring for another person)
3) In courage during difficult times

One should not search for an abstract meaning of life. Everyone has his own specific vocation or mission in life to carry out a concrete assignment, which demands fulfillment. He can't be replaced nor his life be repeated. Thus, everyone's task is as unique as is his specific opportunity to implement it.

Each man is questioned by life, he can only answer to life by answering for his own life. He can only respond by awareness and being responsible with his own life.

The essence of life existence, understand
1) Who I truly am - understand oneself
2) The meaning of love - understand another being core personality
3) The meaning of suffering - find meaning in a hopeless situation

Frankl's initial intent was just to do self reflection in the camp, he never thought his camp experiences became one of the best selling books of all times.

Frankl noticed that it was the men who comforted others and who gave away their last piece of bread who survived the longest - and who offered proof that everything can be taken away from us except the ability to choose our attitude in any given set of circumstances.

Forces beyond our control can take everything we possess except one thing, our freedom to choose how we will respond to the situation. We cannot control what happens to us in life, but we can always control how we feel and do something about it.

Saying Yes to life, in spite of everything. The human capacity to creatively turn life's negative aspects into something positive or constructive. In other words, what matters is to make the best of any given situation.

Do some people feeling empty inside?
It is a question of the attitude one takes towards life's challenges and opportunities, both large and small.

A positive attitude enables a person to endure suffering and disappointment as well as enhance enjoyment and satisfaction.

A negative attitude intensifies pain and deepens disappointment. It may even lead to depression or physical illness.
"The meaning in life is to help others find the meaning of theirs."
- Viktor E. Frankl
